The Wheatsheaf Inn, based in the outskirts of the stunning Staffordshire countryside in the small village of Onneley, close to the Shropshire and Cheshire borders, makes it a prime hotspot for avid restaurant goers and pub fanatics looking for the next big deal.

Due to the huge success of the Government’s Eat Out To Help Out scheme, with hundreds of people taking advantage of a discounted meal at The Wheatsheaf, the team decided to carry on the gratifying offer throughout September. As a thank you for the support from their dedicated customers, they have now extended it to every Wednesday and Thursday during October too, alongside their new Autumn menu.

Head Chef, Adam Power has devised the brand-new menu which showcases an array of Autumnal flavours including a roasted salmon fillet with hints of beetroot and horseradish on a pea and goat’s cheese risotto and crunchy beetroot crisps. The chicken and chorizo ballotine flavoured with spring onion and tomato, crushed potatoes, sautéed kale and a chorizo jus also flourishes in taste and colour which is exactly what the 28-year-old Chef envisages the Autumn menu to be.

For those who enjoy a sweet treat, the desserts on offer include a banoffee crème brûlée and a seasonal blackberry cheesecake with Cheshire Farm apple and blackberry ice cream and spiced apple purée. The use of local produce and using fresh seasonal ingredients is an important attribute to The Wheatsheaf’s ethos.

The dishes from the new menu are affordably priced with most main courses priced between £11.95 for the baked halloumi burger and the trio of lamb at £18.95. The starters range from £3.95 and £12.50 and it also offers a nibbles platter to share for £19.95 which includes Wheatsheaf favourites such as crispy halloumi bites, salt and pepper squid and smoked chicken wings with a blue cheese and almond dip.

The Wheatsheaf Inn strives to be modern whilst offering a few authentic pub classics to appease everyone who visits, or even orders a takeaway – which was introduced during the lockdown period. The extensive burger menu is a popular ‘go to’ especially on a Friday when you can treat yourself to a classic steak burger or a Malaysian fish burger and a pint of beer, or a glass of house wine for just £10.00.

The venue dates back to 1769 and was taken over in March 2017 by Landlord Matthew Murphy, 51, who has been in the industry for over 15 years running The Wheatsheaf’s sister venue – The Cock O’Barton, based in Cheshire.

During these difficult times, The Wheatsheaf has continued to offer a warm restaurant experience for all customers, whether it’s a quick light bite, a full evening of drinks and food or just a pit-stop for a quick pint.

Carl Birchall, 64, Senior Manager at The Wheatsheaf comments:

“As a manager working through these strange times has had its challenges, the government scheme was a great way to encourage people to dine out again and due to the success and support from our customers we thought we’d continue the Eat Out To Help Out offer to say thank you.

“Having worked at The Wheatsheaf for many years I’m pleased to say that the Eat Out To Help Out offer has really boosted our custom and the new menu is the definitely best one yet.”
