While the debate about Chester’s theatre plans continues, city Italian restaurant Convivio in Grosvenor Street is stepping into the breach with its very own ‘Night at the Opera’ back by popular demand for the third year. The annual Autumn evening of supper and sopranos, prosecco and Puccini returns with operatic performances by Impromptu Opera at Convivio Chester on Thursday 23rd October 2014.
Impromptu Opera is the brainchild of internationally renowned pianist and founding member, Martyn Parkes and opera diva, Hrafnhildur Parkes, known as Habba, who is a member of the chorus of English National Opera since 2009 and was a regular member of the Scottish Opera chorus. Habba has appeared in many solo performances throughout the UK and overseas. These include the prestigious and iconic international venues such as the Coliseum in London, home of English National Opera; The Royal Opera House,Covent Garden, Opera North and the Sydney Opera house.
Chantelle Rossow, for Convivio says: “The term ‘impromptu’ as a musical term refers to a work that is often supposed to sound as if it were improvised, or ‘off the cuff’. It also relates to something that is spontaneous. Impromptu Opera introduces opera in a way that gives a light hearted, accessible background to music you may well recognise.”
Convivio will be serving Bellini, Rossini and Canapés upon arrival at 7pm, as well as a handpicked menu of their most exquisite dishes between acts. Decorated masks can be pre-ordered for those looking to throw themselves full-heartedly into the spirit of the evening.
Night at the Opera tickets are £75 per person.
