The World’s Original Marmalade
Awards & Festival at Dalemain 2015
LOCAL MARMALADE MAKER IS TOASTING SUCCESS WITH AWARD WINNING MARMALADES & DOUBLE GOLDEN BOOST FOR BUSINESS
WINNING MARMALADE MAKERS MORE INVENTIVE THAN EVER
Local preserves company Galore! is toasting business success thanks to winning five prestigious food awards including the top prize , Double Gold, at this year’s 10th Anniversary Marmalade Awards Celebrations at Dalemain. They really are a world champion marmalade maker & are now able to proudly carry the award winning roundel on their jars which will now be stocked by Fortnum and Masons in London.
Galore! from Pott Shrigley, near Bollington has just scooped a Double Gold, two Golds and two Silvers in the 10th World’s Original Marmalade Awards. Galore! won one of the marmalade world’s most prestigious accolades for its Seville Orange and Amontillado Sherry which scored high marks for its appearance, colour, consistency, aroma and flavour and was judged to be ‘really special’ by baking guru Dan Lepard.
The Awards took place at Dalemain in Cumbria on 28th February & 1st March 2015 and kicked off National Marmalade Week (28 -7 March 2015), overseen by the awards’ organisers, which encourages people to try, buy or make marmalade.
Owner Claire Plover said they were delighted to win the awards: “This is a golden award for us in more ways than one! We’ve got our preserve pans at the ready to make lots more jars so please come and try it at the Treacle Market Macclesfield.
Record entries were received for the 10th Anniversary of this prestigious award with over 2,600 jars of marmalade from as far afield as Australia, India, Denmark, Japan, USA and New Zealand were sent, by both artisan producers and amateur makers, to the organisers of the quirkily British awards for judging by a prestigious panel of marmalade experts who were once again amazed by the standard of the marmalades entered.
Awards and Festival organiser Jane Hasell-McCosh said: “The standard of the competition this year has been outstanding and congratulations to Galore! on their awards and I am delighted that the awards continues to grow with more and more entries each year. When I started this competition 10 years ago my aim was to preserve the art of marmalade making and raise the quality of marmalade worldwide and I think in the last 10 years with the help of a growing army of small artisan producers we have saved and celebrated one of our great British traditions.” I truly believe we have a ‘Renaissance in Marmalade Making’ and would like to congratulate and thank each and every marmalade maker for making this possible.
The World’s Original Marmalade Awards & Festival boasts the sponsorship backing of some of the most famous names in marmalade – Paddington, Mackays, and Fortnum & Mason. The event’s 2015 charity beneficiaries are Hospice at Home, Action Medical Research and Marie Curie in Scotland. To date those golden pots of marmalade have raised over £150,000 for charity with the aim of raising £200,000!
