The Taste Cheshire Food and Drink Awards, now in their 20th year have reported that with still, six weeks remaining to vote, over 10,000 votes have been cast. Taste Cheshire CEO Stephen Wundke said “It is extraordinary, the number of votes cast in such a short time and highlights just how popular these awards have become. Voting has only been open for 2 weeks and we normally experience a big surge in the final weeks so it looks like our record of 44,000 votes will easily be exceeded this year. I genuinely believe that these awards have helped raise the bar of our hospitality offer across the county as each year businesses strive to earn the public’s votes and that the success being enjoyed by so many of the nominations is because we all now know the standard necessary to succeed”.

Taste Cheshire also revealed two new sponsors for their individual awards. The Ginsmiths of Liverpool, makers of high quality Gin, based in the centre of Liverpool have agreed to sponsor the Best Small Restaurant and Love Lane Brewing are sponsoring the Best Newcomer Award with Love Lane Pale Ale. Stephen Crawley, Founder and Chief Executive for both brands was delighted to be able to sponsor at these awards as he explained. “Both of our drinks fit perfectly with the types of venues nominated in these categories. We are brewing company with a small gin still concentrating on a delivering high quality products and working closely with our trade customers, delivering outstanding taste to our consumers. The synergy with all of those nominated in these prestigious awards is obvious and we are looking forward to crowning the winners on the night of the presentation.”

Wundke welcomed Stephen and his company “We have known of Steve and his products since he started just 2 years ago and it is great to see yet another North West success story. They really do provide the perfect fit for our awards and we look forward to working with them through the judging period to find out who has been nominated”

Voting for these awards closes on the 3rd of March with the top 4/5 in each category then being mystery dined and shopped to come up with Gold, Silver and Bronze winners in each class. The awards first started in 1999 and he been ever present, running side by side with the Taste Cheshire Food and Drink festival.

The awards evening takes place at The Pavilion at Chester Racecourse two days after the festival on April the 24th. More than 400 people will gather at these industry awards to hear if they have won, this being one of the few nights of the year when the Chester and Cheshire Hospitality industry lets its hair down to celebrate the ever-burgeoning food and drink scene, that they have helped create across Cheshire.
