Peckforton Farm Dairy is now in its second year of existence, supplying super quality milk to both locals and businesses in Cheshire and surrounding counties.
Local people; and tea, coffee shops and restaurants have already given the milk a huge ‘thumbs up’ buying milk on a regular basis. Milk is supplied both from the farm gate via a vending machine, or by delivery by refrigerated van. Both raw and pasteurised milks are available.
Manor Farm, Peckforton, has been a family dairy farm for six generations. Run by Jacqueline and James Capewell along with Jacqueline’s father, Lincoln Dakin, the dairy herd comprises 130 pedigree Meuse Rhine Issel milking cows and also youngstock. The cows are famous for their good tasting, high protein milk.
Said Jacqueline: “We operate environmentally friendly and high welfare systems. All cattle are reared on our farm and farmland. Female calves are used for dairy cow replacements and bull calves are reared for beef. We are virtually self sufficient in what we feed. Our cattle enjoy great Cheshire grassland in spring, summer and autumn, and in winter are housed and fed our own maize, grass silage and fodder beet. We also supplement with home grown grains, and the only thing we buy in are the protein mineral supplements. ”
Added Jacqueline: “We started the direct milk supply business in 2018 following the interest in raw milk for nutrition and health reasons, and the whole operation is growing well. Many people calling in like to see our cows out grazing on the fields near the farm.”
The vending machine is housed in a shed at the farm gate, and dispenses either 1 or 2 litres of raw milk. The milk is housed in a refrigerated unit and is filled daily with milk fresh from the herd. It cost £1 per litre. Pasteurised milk is stored in a nearby fridge.
Daily deliveries of pasteurised milk are made to tea and coffee shops, and restaurants by van. The milk is particularly well suited for making coffee, ideal for barista purposes.
