To celebrate the inaugural Chester Food and Drink Week, Chester Cathedral will be hosting the Taste Cheshire Farmers Market on Wednesday the 16th September.

For the first time in over 100 years the Nave of Chester Cathedral will play host to a stunning array of Cheshire produced goods, featuring the traders of Taste Cheshire.

Stephen Wundke, CEO of Taste Cheshire was elated, as he explained. This is an incredibly special occasion. There are only 42 Cathedrals in the UK and Chester is the only one, that we know who has had the foresight and courage to allow the people of Cheshire the opportunity to see just how the Cathedral may have worked hundreds of years ago when traders came to swop goods and sell their wares. We are incredibly privileged to be able to stage our market in the Nave and we thank the Dean for his decision and support, to show that The Cathedral is a part of Chester Food and Drink Week. Our Cathedral is without doubt one of the finest in the UK and I encourage everyone to come along, be inspired by this amazing building and see the amazing produce on offer from our traders. This will be a very special day.”

The Dean of Chester Cathedral, the Right Revd Dr Tim Stratford said “Chester Cathedral is pleased to be involved in the inaugural Chester Food and Drink Week. The opportunity to be able to bring people together through food and drink is something we are familiar with through the Church and this event seems the ideal way to feature both our fabulous Cathedral and the stunning products made by the producers of Cheshire.”

Izzy Grey, Principal Organiser of Chester Food and Drink Week was similarly excited. “I am delighted to be able to feature such a special event in our calendar. This is our first Chester Food and Drink Week and to be able to stage one of our FREE events in Chester’s iconic and unique building makes it extra special. Chester Cathedral have done us proud, yet again.”

The Cathedral Farmers market will start at 10am on the 16th and finish at 4pm. Admission is FREE and the layout adopts the socially distanced principles within the Cathedral. Entry will be through the West Doors, which are the ones that face on to Town Hall Square.
