Hot off the back of their success in the inaugural People’s Choice Spirits Awards, Manchester-based Zymurgorium Distillery are celebrating a listing of their famous Manchester Marmalade Gin at Co-op stores.

The Manchester Marmalade Gin features the iconic Duerr’s Manchester Marmalade. Created by macerating the Zymurgorium Manchester vodka with wild juniper and balancing botanicals, before blending in the key ingredient, the finest Manchester Marmalade crafted by Duerr’s, the UK’s oldest family-owned preserves producer. Manchester Marmalade Gin combines the aromas of fresh marmalade, with a creamy, bittersweet citrus taste.  Or, as the professional judges commented “A real taste of sunshine in the glass”.

With the demand for craft spirits and the appetite for gin showing no sign of slowing down, Zymurgorium is making its artisan gins more accessible to consumers, as two of the brand’s biggest sellers, Zymurgorium Manchester’s Original Gin and Manchester Marmalade Gin, will appear on shelves from 15th March.

The latter picked up the Runner up medal for the ‘Out of the Ordinary’ category in the spirits awards and their Mandarin Dynasty Gin won in the ‘Gin Fusion’ Category.

“We are so chuffed for Zymurgorium!  Having received 6 finalist places from their entries, it seemed ‘a given’ that they would scoop some medals.  states Awards founder Janet Harrison. “Whilst this is a national competition, our home is in Manchester so we are thrilled that this will be available at the Co-op – congratulations to them.”

The People’s Choice Drinks Awards now incorporates 2 competitions, with the spirits categories being added in 2021.  The virtual Awards ceremony, without guests, was filmed (socially distanced) in Manchester, at the Zymurgorium Distillery and presented by Britain’s Got Talent finalist Steve Royle, alongside North West based wine merchant and ex BBC Food and Drink presenter, Kate Goodman.  Zymurgorium don’t generally enter awards, but loved the consumer-facing nature of this competition.

Managing director of Zymurgorium, Aaron Darke said: “Growing on the success of last year, securing a listing with the Co-op will now enable us to reach out further into the consumer market, expanding both our reach and appeal to new audiences. We have heavily invested in state-of-the-art production and bottling facilities to increase our capacity, and listings like this help us along with our growth plans for this year and looking ahead to the future.”

The People’s Choice Wine Awards was created in 2017 by Janet Harrison of Cracking Wine and Judy Kendrick, MD of ‘common sense’ wine marketing consultancy JK Marketing.

The People’s Choice Drinks Awards, now incorporating wines and spirits is the only UK-based national drinks awards dedicated to and judged by consumers with help and support from industry professionals. They are designed to accurately reflect how the average drinker in the UK chooses and enjoys wines and spirits.

The award categories reflect the buying decisions of the average consumer and cover all types of occasions.  Submission numbers to the competition have grown 100% year on year for wines and the spirits categories will be expanded for the 2022 competition, from the current 8, across gin, rum and whisky/whiskey.
