Chester has an incredible culture of independent businesses, and the collective
struggles we’ve faced over the previous year have only deepened the sense of
camaraderie and mutual support we share for one another. Seeing and experiencing
this support inspired a new possibility – the minds behind two established indies
coming together to create something new in the city.
With the Chef’s Table moving to a new location later this year, one of the biggest
questions that’s been looming over our heads was what to do with our current premises
when we moved. The leases were up, but after seven years we weren’t sure we were
ready to leave the space entirely– should we let it go, or keep it and relaunch a new
concept?
The last thing we wanted was to leave more vacant buildings in Chester, but
we couldn’t quite nail down a concept we loved that was suited to the space.
When Laura mentioned she was looking to bring a second Meltdown location to the
city centre, a new possibility was born.
We had a building, she had a brand concept, and the idea for a collaboration immediately sprung to life faster than the cheese on our toastie could melt.
After a few days around the table, a brand new concept was born…
M E L T T O W N will bring all the cheesy prowess of Laura’s Meltdown in Handbridge as
a reimagined concept and new dining experience to our current location at 4 Music Hall
Passage. Expect the menu to feature all things cheese from raclette to grilled cheese,
plus cocktails, beers and banging tunes.
The takeaway kiosk of Siu Tang fame will also return to serve up a selection of cheesy cult favourites to-go, so you can indulge in our dairy delights on the run.
If you’re a Meltdown disciple, fret not – it’s as usual in
Handbridge with Rob running the show.
We hope to create here a relaxed space where
you can pop in for a quick lunch, or book on the weekends for a laid-back dinner. This is
a really fun concept and we couldn’t be more excited about this one!

and receive an update on our opening. See you soon!
