January is the month to Eat Out…and we are happy to prove it! #Blog

Dry January, Blue Monday, misery month…. we refuse to subscribe to this new year negativity!

January is the absolute best month to eat out in our opinion and we are here to tell you why.

Firstly, we have to think about why we eat out… After a Christmas period where I have repeatedly cooked for large groups of family (something that this year I was particularly happy to be able to do) but I am certainly fed up of my own kitchen. Washing up and I are not friends. My children seem to have deserted our chore rota in favour of playing with the many, many gifts/toys they received over the festive period. I don’t blame them, I want to wear my beautiful new shoes and jewellery and have a play with my new makeup.

So, why wouldn’t I want to eat out? Someone to chef for me, serve and wash up for me. A beautifully laid table, set for me, without the addition of the new hot wheels trucks. Atmospheric music, not Paw patrol The Movie as background noise.

Yes, I want to dress up in my new finery and go out to dinner.

Why else do I want to eat out? Well, I love to try something new, something I wouldn’t cook for myself at home. perhaps because I lack the expertise or due to the full time job, two kids and all, I lack the time and energy to turn out something new, or complex and exciting.

Is there anything more thrilling than a menu? New dishes to explore, old favourites to revisit?

January is absolutely the best time to do this. There’s a reason smart people call it #Tryanuary.  New year’s resolutions so often include “being open to new experience and trying new things”, and that should not be limited to joining a new gym that you stop going to after 3 months, or attempting to Marie Kondo your life before realising that watching her series on Netflix on the sofa with a glass of wine is really what brings you joy.

January deals in the hospitality industry are absolutely brilliant.  There’s so much scope to pop out for lunch in a place you’ve been desperate to try. And if you end up not being that keen, well, it was 25 or 50% off, so it doesn’t matter quite so much. However, you may have just discovered a new favourite.

Speaking of trying new things. January is also a month where people trial out a plant based diet in the much discussed #Veganuary. For so many of us, going entirely plant based is a daunting idea. There’s nothing quite like eating out Vegan to help you realise that not everything is off the menu dishes wise and to give you some inspiration to take a plant based approach even if it is only for a month.

Eating out in January is very pocket friendly. As someone who loves to live a Champagne lifestyle on what is usually only a lemonade budget, I love January. I can eat out for lunch a couple of times a week, dinner too when I like and it’s a bargain.

The other thing, the surprising bonus of January, is that it’s quiet. I never worry about getting a reservation at the place which is “always full” and the staff have more time. I love great service. The level of service from the hospitality industry in Cheshire is unreal, it’s good at the busiest of times, but in January, they hit new highs.

Staff have time to talk to you about the menu, bartenders get creative with unexpected ingredients to wow you with a mocktail, managers have actually slept this week, so they are on the ball and firing on all cylinders. Chefs can step away from that festive set menu they’ve been cooking for 6 weeks straight and let their creativity flow. I swear you can taste the excitement in their food.

I do realise, that by encouraging you to join me in my January eating out campaign, I do run the risk of ending the peace and thereby losing this January benefit. However, there’s a huge sense of pride in encouraging people to eat, shop, stay local. If we support our amazing local eateries through this difficult, quiet month, we can help boost our local economy, increase employment and protect the environment, reducing our carbon footprint. Supporting them now, means they can continue and will be there for us when we return to our party ways later in the year.

Eating out in January may not be all drinks and party, it may be more juices and salads, but that is definitely not a reason to not do it.

Go Out, meet up with friends, cheer up a miserable month and support your favourite local food heavens.
