Building the world’s largest ice cream parlour with The Ice Cream Farm’s Managing Director Jonathan Fell

Over 30 years ago, the Fell family began experimenting with the production of ice cream. Now, they’re running the world’s largest ice cream parlour. Jonathan Fell, Managing Director at The Ice Cream Farm, is the latest to be welcomed as a guest on award-winning family business podcast, It Runs In The Family.

This staggering brand evolution has carried with it a huge degree of tact and trust, a few sizable hurdles, and two generations of a family devoted to an unparalleled experience that extends beyond the ice cream itself.

In the latest podcast episode, Liz and Leila speak with 2nd generation Managing Director, Jonathan Fell, about how he’s gradually taken the reins and continues to grow their family’s ambitious vision.

Podcast co-host Liz Willingham says: “Through taking risks and making wise investments, the family has cleverly diversified its routes, learnt some difficult lessons, and now offer family fun to thousands of visitors each year.

“We speak with Jonathan Fell, who started working for the family business at just fifteen years old. This episode gave us a brilliant opportunity to take a deep dive and find out the thinking behind this inspiring family business.”

Listeners will benefit from Jonathan Fell’s advice on how a family can steadily diversify their business, how to evolve a vision organically, the benefits and banes of being self-taught in business and finding the right time to pass the torch and assume ownership.

Commenting on how the family has developed the business over time, podcast co-host Leila Willingham adds: “It is fascinating to hear how the business has diversified and how the succession of responsibilities was gradual. By being adaptable and considering the interests and skills of the family, The Ice Cream Farm has been able to grow in ways they may never have predicted. Jonathan explains in this episode how he learned the ropes, and how his role grew steadily over time.”

It Runs In The Family is currently ranking at number 39 in the Great Britain entrepreneurship podcast chart as well as number 12 in the top international family business podcasts and number three in the UK *. Outside the UK, the It Runs In The Family podcast is attracting listeners in 42 countries including United States, Canada, Russia, Germany, France, and Australia.

A new episode of It Runs In The Family is released every other Wednesday and is available to download and stream on all major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts.
