A day with Cottom Foods #Review

I was recently invited along to Cottom Foods for a tour of their sausage factory. I think it’s safe to say that I’ve had wurst days out, what a brilliant experience!

Cottom Foods have been producing premium award-winning pork sausages and black pudding at their factory in Widnes for the past 20 years. They have been winners at the past two Taste Cheshire Awards – triumphing in the Flavoured Sausage Category two years in a row!

When I arrived, I was warmly greeted by their marketing manager Ian Anderson and Cottom Foods’ Director Will Munro. Ian’s a proud Welshman that is passionate about their delicious sausages and Will is a fourth-generation butcher; what he doesn’t know about quality meat isn’t worth knowing. Their enthusiasm about their sausages really shines through.

When I learned that they had laid on sausages for me to taste I was as happy as a pig in… a sty! They had prepared 9 different sausages for me to taste – which were all delicious but my favourite had to be the hot and spicy. It had the perfect punch of heat and fat content; which made it plump, juicy and of course spicy! What more do you want in a sausage!?

I was then given a guided tour of the factory, what an amazing experience. I think sometimes –  and I’m the biggest culprit – that we often forget where our food comes from, and the labour involved to put it on our table. Their factory is modern and clean, and their staff highly skilled. They use a time honoured traditional method of manufacture that ensures the meat and ingredients are carefully blended together to deliver maximum taste and quality, ensuring a perfectly nice meaty kick every time! I was impressed to learn that they still hand link their sausages!

Their main route of sale is through wholesalers and farm shops, but they have recently just introduced their own retail brand William’s Sausage Co into retail giants B&M Bargains and Home Bargains. Look out for their Pink Pig Brand in a shop near you!
