Sofa and Fire

I was so delighted to be invited to lunch by the lovely Donna, from Wild Goose Restaurant. What a lovely time I have at work!

So off I trotted to meet with Donna at 12pm for lunch. After a short time whilst admiring the decor (and I have to admit a visit to the beautifully decorated toilets!) we sat down at a lovely central table, near the open log fire.

We ordered coffee, for me it has to be an americano and Donna ordered a latte. I am a coffee ‘snob’ – I was not disappointed – coffee with a lovely crema is just perfect thank you.

After some chit chat, we deliberated over the menu and eventually asked the very knowledgeable waitress – Sandra – what she would recommend – A difficult ask. And after Sandra’s great advice we decided to share the following small plates from the menu.

  • Cheshire blue cheese profiteroles, chilli jam and herb pesto £5
  • Beer battered cauliflower fritters, chilli crème fraiche and salsa Verde £4.50
  • Salt and pepper chicken wings, chilli and spring onion salad £5.50

My personal favourite was the Beer Battered Cauliflower with the chilli creme fraiche which was just delightful. Very fresh, light and fragrant. The profiteroles were also yummy – I love blue cheese and I love Chilli Jam and Pesto – so pretty awesome choice for me. Donna’s favourite were the chicken wings – in fact I didn’t get a look in on them!

Not that I needed a dessert but Sandra was so persuasive that I chose the Pineapple carpaccio, coconut cream, chilli and mint syrup, apple sorbet £5 which was absolutely gorgeous, with just enough chilli to add a kick to the refreshing pineapple, syrup and sorbet. Donna chose the probably more popular Chocolate and orange delice with chantille cream £5 which was very rich but so smooth and very moreish.

What can I say, the whole experience was utterly fabulous. I will most definitely return to devour more on the menu. If you prefer a main course rather than the small plates there are a number of main course options from Rib Eye Steak, Cod Fillet, Thai Yellow Duck Curry or a Mushroom stuffed Welsh Rarebit. All main courses range from £12.50 – £19.50.

Wild Goose Restaurant is an all round winner for me and most definitely well worth a visit. Be it, coffee and cake, lunch or dinner you will not be disappointed.
