An Intimate Bistro with Exceptional Cuisine and Wine
Nestled in the charming town of Knutsford, Linden Stores has emerged as a culinary gem, captivating the hearts and taste buds of Cheshire’s food enthusiasts. Our recent visit to this intimate bistro was an unforgettable gastronomic adventure, leaving us eager to share our experience with fellow food lovers.
Upon entering Linden Stores, we were immediately greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, enhanced by the rustic charm of exposed brick walls and soft lighting. The aroma of tantalising dishes wafted through the air, enticing our senses and preparing us for a culinary delight.
Our culinary journey comes in the form of a Chef’s Menu which is priced extremely reasonably at £40pp. The dishes come out as small plates as and when they are ready but the menu takes you on a flavour journey which is connected start to finish and leaves you just the perfect level of full.
We began with a house foccacia with rosemary and sea salt butter, perfect springy bread which we slathered in the butter in sheer delight. This is not a place where they skimp on flavour or quality. Each element showcasing the chef’s mastery of seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
The Trealy Farm carpaccio, deliciously thin and delicately balanced with goat’s cheese and walnuts, was a symphony of textures and flavours. The squash, Yorkshire blue and raisin croquettes were creamy, unctuous and complemented by aioli, were a testament to the chef’s culinary prowess and I would be quite happy to just sit eating bowl after bowl of them! I am glad that I didn’t though as I needed the stomach space for the gorgeous smoke mackerel with fennel bitter leaves and apple which was the perfect combination.
As we progressed to the Cheshire game bird, we were further impressed by the chef’s ability to create dishes that were both innovative and comforting. The rich turnip puree was perfection and along with the wild mushrooms, was a true embodiment of rustic elegance. The chef, Chris has a real ability to transform humble ingredients into culinary masterpieces.
Complementing our exquisite meal was an exceptional selection of wines, carefully curated by the knowledgeable owner Laura. Our server guided us through the wine list, offering insightful recommendations that perfectly paired with our dishes. The wines we savoured were not only exceptional in quality but also showcased a commitment to supporting independent, small-scale winemakers.
No meal would be complete without indulging in a delectable dessert. The Chocolate and Peanut butter tart was a taste sensation, a harmonious blend of salty and sweet that left us wanting more. What a conclusion to a truly brilliant meal.
Throughout our dining experience, the staff at Linden Stores were attentive, knowledgeable, and incredibly fun to converse with. They passionately shared their insights into the menu, the wine selection, the new venue, and Knutsford’s vibrant food scene.
