It’s National Baking week and when it comes to baking you can’t get very far without flour or should we say Nelstrops Flour…
The sixth generation family-run business have been making the finest quality flours in Cheshire for nearly 200 years.
It all began in 1820 when a 19-year-old William Nelstrop crossed the Pennines from the family farm in Ackworth, Yorkshire to Stockport where he founded Nelstrops flour millers.
The mill – which still stands today – has seen some great times, from delivering flour by horse and cart, receiving sacks of grain along the Stockport canal and milling under steam power!
Those traditions have continued over time and not only do they now make flours for craft bakers and chefs but also in retail sized bags for those of you who like to bake at home. Perfect for National Baking Week!
As well as using the finest wheats from Cheshire, they also source the best from around the world and that has seen them rewarded with the highest of accolades at the Great Taste awards including three Star Golds and five 2 Star Golds!
Their fantastic range includes the Tasty Seeds & Grains Flour which is a blend of finely milled wheat flour, sunflower seeds, millet, rye flakes, poppy seeds, toasted wheat flakes, linseed, barley flour and barley flakes.
Another of our favourites is the Malted Toast Flour; a blend of finely milled bread making wheat flour with toasted malted wheat flakes, kibbled wheat and malted barley flour.
If you’re planning on making some sourdough bread this week, the Master Bakers Strong White Flour is perfect, using the finest quality wheats from around the world.
