On the 10th, 11th and 12th of July, the Farm Shop will welcome the Enroot farm to table dinner series to Hawarden. Enroot is a group of chefs, artists, and activists dedicated to sustaining small scale farming in Great Britain. It is a travelling, grass-roots kitchen that hosts farm-to-table events in collaboration with farmers and small business. We are thrilled that they are bringing the Enroot movement to the Farm Shop.
The Enroot team strongly believes that there is an ever increasing disconnect, between the food people eat and the farmers who produce it. Their goal is to bridge this widening gap between producers and consumers by removing the barriers separating them, and preparing dinners on the farm itself, in this case the Hawarden Estate. Having launched the initiative in Scotland to rave reviews, the team is now its way to Shropshire and after that to Hawarden. At each farm Enroot will produce a five course dinner, hosting 32 people each night. The food the team provides will be carefully sourced from the Estate and other local Farms, in an effort to produce a menu that reflects the produce of our community.
The Enroot collective was Co-founded by Angus Buchanan Smith and DeVonn Francis, friends who met while attending The Cooper Union College in New York and who both have deep ties to food and farming. Angus grew up on Cockburn Farm Dairy, located just outside Edinburgh. He was deeply affected by the closure of the dairy in 2003, due to the collapse of the dairy market in the UK and has since become an advocate for small scale farming. DeVonn grew up working in his father’s restaurant in Virginia, USA, and is a chef who will be crafting Enroot’s menus for the dinners.
Places are limited, you can book your tickets for a really extraordinary evening of food and friends here. Tickets are £30 for a four course meal, not including wine.
