Description

Spitting Feathers Brewery

Spitting Feathers is known for producing dynamic and superb quality craft beer in keg, cask and bottle, but there is much more going on at their home on Common Farm in Waverton than the brewing of award-winning beer and cider! Matthew and his fabulous team at Spitting Feathers have closed the loop on local produce and sustainability, whilst also remaining many steps ahead with innovation and creativity. The used grains from the brewery are a valuable feed for the pigs that provide the brewery and their pubs (The Brewery Tap in Chester and The West Kirby Tap on the Wirral) with their delicious pork. Beehives also provide honey for the pubs and seasonal beer, Honey Trap, and small amounts of hops are also grown on the farm for use in occasional speciality beers. Driven by their enthusiasm for great beer and good times, Spitting Feathers has continued to grow and evolve into a forward-thinking brewery, producing some of the best beers in Cheshire and beyond. The art of brewing has become a thing of artisan excellence – a lesson in true, local sustainability.

The Brewery Tap

The Brewery Tap is set in an historic great hall of medieval origin, rebuilt in the 17th century (the external brick façade was added following the fire of London). It’s a great setting to sample their range of award-winning craft beers and delicious food.

Life at “The Tap” revolves around the bar where they serve cask and keg beers & ciders along with a good selection of wines and spirits. They have Spitting Feathers beers from Spitting Feathers’ HQ Common Farm, as well as selected guest beers from local breweries.

Alexanders Live

Alexanders is Chester’s number one live entertainment venue where local and national comedians perform side by side, and the UK’s best tribute acts grace the stage every week with great quality music to happy crowds. Committed to keeping it local at every level, Alexanders pours its very own pale ale brewed by Spitting Feathers. It’s a win all round for local produce and sustainability.

The Chester Fields Country Pub & Restaurant

The Chester Fields is a great quality dining pub just outside Chester with stunning views over the Cheshire plains, and an epic outside space from which to enjoy them (you can also take a walk with Rack & Ruin Alpacas for a fabulous family-friendly experience). Having won so many Taste Cheshire awards for their use of local produce on a menu, their commitment extends to their beer selection with their very own label gold ale brewed just for them by Oaks Brewery in Ellesmere Port.

The Ship Inn

The Ship Inn is a superb and independently-run dining pub in the stunning location of Handbridge (and just a very short walk from the city centre), on the banks of the River Dee. Apart from serving fabulous food (using so many locally produced ingredients), they also serve one of our county’s most loved real ales; Cheshire Cat from Weetwood Ales in Tarporley – a smooth, easy-drinking blonde ale – alongside their extensive Thwaites beer selection.

Commonhall Social

When it comes to good beer, Stew and the team at Commonhall Social certainly know their stuff! These guys have an ever-changing selection of local craft beers and ales, meaning they have something new for their beer-loving guests to try on every visit. They have a large variety of craft beers from breweries locally and further afield, but their most loved local beer is Polly’s, from Polly’s Brew Co in Mold. It is their passion to create hop-forward, modern styles of beer with an emphasis on freshness. Stew’s favourites are little petal, a West Coast pale ale hopped with Cascade & Simcoe, and Floret, a pale ale hopped with Azacca, citrus & Simcoe.
