Discover more from spectacular South Africa with us on The River Dee! The exciting wine nation has evolved over the years and has become a meeting point of old and new world wine styles! There is so much more to South African wine than Stellenbosch with other well known regions such as Robertson and Franschhoek producing exciting wines together with lesser known regions such as Elgin, Coastal, Cape Town and Voor-Paadergerg!

To make this river cruise extra special we’ll be featuring the award winning fine wine Lithic Whisperer from the Andreas Wine Estate! The estate’s recent history is a charming story of two friends who took the estate on as a retirement project which quite quickly turned into 23 friends and the former winemaker of the famous Chocolate Block from Boekenhoutskloof!. We’ll be featuring the 2018 vintage which won gold at the 2024 People’s Choice Wine Awards in the ‘Treat Yourself: Red, £15+ per bottle’ category. Wine School of Cheshire founder, Richard J Smith, is a lead judge at the awards and is excited to share this sensational wine with guests on board. 

This is a very tranquil stretch of the Dee with opportunities to spot wildlife, including swans, herons, cormorants, moorhens and – if your eyes are sharp – a kingfisher or two, so keep your camera ready, if you can take your eyes off our wine selection! We look forward to welcoming you on board The Lady Diana for a truly enjoyable river cruise with wine and food pairing together with some balanced wine education. For most of our wine tasting river cruises our food pairings will be prepared and served by the amazing students at Academy West at The Cheshire College hospitality school. We are proud to support the college wherever possible as we have done since 2013.

Look forward to enjoying the views from the top deck of The Lady Diana – of course we have things covered in the event of rain however we do recommend having something warmer available to wear as the sun begins to set. You’ll try six fantastic wines and as all of our wine tasting events focus on food and wine matching, we’ll be pairing these with delicious canapés and/or small plates and you’ll pick up some fun wine facts along the way too!
