Italy is home to some of the world’s most famous wines and is the biggest wine producing country in the world, representing between one quarter and one third of global wine production. Wine has been produced in Italy since at least 800 BC. Italy’s 20 wine regions correspond to its 20 administrative regions and there are more than 2,000 different grape varieties! There is so much more to discover!
Join us in our unique event space, Art Box and look forward to an entertaining afternoon of wine education and enjoyment together with an amazing wine and food pairing experience in Chester with Cheshire wine specialist, Richard J Smith. Art Box features some amazing paintings from emerging artists around our region offering guests a light yet calming environment to experience wine and food pairing at its best.
Our Saturday wine school events, which include a five course tasting menu lunch, are a fantastic way to spend an afternoon learning more about the wonderful world of wine in a relaxed atmosphere and free of political opinions! There are always foodie treats on the menu but never wine snobbery! Our principal lunch courses will be prepared and served by the amazing students at Academy West at The Cheshire College hospitality school. We are proud to support the college wherever possible as we have done since 2013. Our cheeses are supplied by Britain’s finest cheesemonger and Royal Warrant holder, Paxton and Whitfield! We begin all of our Saturday wine schools with a glass of The Gusbourne Estate Brut Reserve vintage English Sparkling. Find out more about Gusbourne here. There then another 7 wines to look forward to throughout the afternoon – we’re generous with our tastings and there’s a glass of each wine with every course of lunch with a top up available if guests wish for a little more.
You’ll learn how a grape variety can create a completely different flavour dependent on where and in many cases how it’s been grown. Find out more about the effects of regional climates and how to understand some of the ‘jargon’ on a wine label and what all the swirling and sniffing is really for – most importantly you’ll taste the wines too! Each course is paired with a different wine to really get your tastebuds working and you’ll find out how wine and food pairing works by enjoying a fantastic five course lunch!
