Foods with Character – Characters with Food #Blog

The Sandstone ridge is dotted with clever, passionate artisans making some of the tastiest food in the country. As part of the Sandstone Ridge festival we would like to share those producers, their stories and of course their food with you.

It’s a lunch with a difference in our charming Victorian school hall nestled alongside the Sandstone trail. You will be able to meet the artisans as they tell their stories while you share an interactive lunch with friends old and new.

Previously, Brian has help to showcase the artisan food of the Region through his nationwide demonstrations and his Young Chef competition – now the focus is on his friends from in and around the Sandstone ridge. Together we’ll enjoy: –

Pies, pickles & pasture.

Three of our favourite producers on one platter, Powells pork pies, Larkton Hall cheese & relish from Berry fresh bakery.

Find out why a farming family resurrected an age old family recipe, a former chef is making Alpine style cheese and an ex campaign manager is getting himself in a pickle along the ridge.

Happy cows, simple cooking and a chat.

Wholly cow…it’s wholly cow! Native Red Poll cattle are carefully reared on t’other side of Peckforton Hill. Rare beef well done is their motto and Helen Langley will be here to tell the tail…sorry tale! Slowly aged beef will be simmered with aromats and a suspicion of beer served up with seasonal vegetables.

Stories from the old school

Chester pudding may be little known even in these parts, but it works perfectly with Mrs. Darlingtons lemon curd, so that’s our pudding. But what’s the connection between the curd and the school? Sarah Darlington will be with us to explain the story behind the famous preserves.
