As part of Vegan month here at Taste Cheshire we have been struck by how difficult it can be to find plant based “naughty”food. Plant based food certainly has a ‘virtuous’ image, but just because you are Vegan doesn’t mean you don’t want to treat yourself.
Some great restaurants do offer excellent plant based options alongside their normal menus and we were thrilled to be able to give these a whirl this week at BurgerShed 41.
Burgershed 41, based on Bridge Street, Chester is a great spot for a quick and tasty lunch, with the friendliest of staff to welcome you.
It’s a cool burger joint, a US inspired UK take on a classic New York burger bar in an industrial meets vintage interior.
Alongside Burgers, they also offer hot dogs, tacos, crinkle cut fries, milk shakes & craft beer. They are a restaurant with table service, but if you want to take your burger away then that’s fine too. They have tables outside on a lovely sunny day, but also cozy booths in the back for date nights or private friend catch ups!
At Burger Shed 41 you’ll find the BEST burgers, but you may also be surprised to find them offering the best Vegan food. Their regular menu features not only a vegan burger with a mushroom and pinto bean patty, but also a Vegan dog and Vegan tacos.
This sounded too good to be true so we absolutely had to try them, we went for the delicious crispy Vegan Taco is loaded up with Cajun mushrooms, salsa, rocket, guacamole, crispy onions and cucumber and the infamous loaded Vegan Dog, which is topped with BBQ pulled Jackfruit, spring onion and crispy onions.
We absolutely could not visit Burgershed 41 without a side of their totally divine Crinkle cut fries, we could eat them all day.
The crispy taco shell revealed a well spiced mushroom and was lovely and the taco contents were incredibly appealing and fresh. Portion size was plentiful as they give you not one, two but three tacos, This was the perfect lunch. it’s something we would regularly order without realising it was vegan.
The most incredible thing was the Vegan dog though. Firstly you would never know it was Vegan. Secondly. the pulled BBQ Jackfruit topping was a revelation. With a similar texture to pulled pork but with a slight acidity and freshness you would not expect, this gave the dog a feeling of ‘naughtiness’ as well as making it very filling. Jackfruit comes from the fig family of trees and that gives it a slight sweetness which goes extremely well with the BBQ sauce. The crispy onions on the top were perfect and I would definitely say, this would be the Vegan hangover food of champions.
We would have absolutely no problem popping down for this lunch over and over again, not just “quick and dirty” but delicious and Vegan. Who knew it was even possible!?
Thanks so much to Burgershed 41 for gifting us this experience, the service was, as ever spot on and the food delightful. We stand by the comments in this article and if you don’t believe us, and even if you do, we recommend you try it.
Burgershed41’s delicious food is also available brought to your home or office by Deliveroo.
Burger Shed 41 is a hip new Burger Joint from the people behind the Ring O' Bells in Christleton and URBANO 32 in Chester.
