When Burger Shed 41’s Man Vs Food Challenge was discussed in one of our team meetings, bizarrely everybody looked at me! I don’t know whether to take that as an insult or a compliment, but lets go with it as a compliment.
Initially the challenge I thought would be quite easy to do, what’s a burger, fries, onion rings, brisket balls, milkshake and a sundae to someone who likes big portions?! Well take into account, the burger was a triple, the fries were topped with chilli beef, the onion rings are extra large and there were seven of them! Oh, and did I mention you only have 30 minutes to finish it all! My colleagues didn’t mention it to me either!
As with any challenge, you have to prepare! My lunch was cut down to just soup which, as somebody who loves to eat, was a challenge itself. Briony recommended I do squats to help to food go down, but I passed on that one.
My game plan, was to alternate between each item, a bit of brisket ball washed down with a bit of milkshake. For the first 15 minutes this worked quite well, but then the “fullness detectors” started going off so I focused on trying to clear as many items as possible in the remaining time. I managed to eat the brisket balls, onion rings, chilli beef fries and the milkshake, but sadly to say, I was defeated by half a burger and the sundae. In the two months that Burger Shed 41 have been running the challenge, one 1 person has managed to complete it. If you think you can do any better, why not attempt it yourself. It only costs £29 if you fail.
Aside from the challenge, Burger Shed 41 is a brilliant venue, a little gem tucked into a corner of Chester. As the kitchen is right in the heart of the restaurant, you can see the chefs in action which is quite a unique experience. The hospitality from the team was excellent, trying to relax and prepare me for the ordeal ahead. I’d love to go back, but maybe not with so much food in front of me!
Thank you Burger Shed 41. See you soon.
