It’s National Potato Day, Don’t roast me for jumping on the potato wagon…let’s chip away at the issue.
Potato puns aside, the humble potato is often dismissed as mundane, but in Cheshire we are hugely proud of our local potatoes and Cheshire new potatoes are renowned all over the world as some of the absolute best.
Cheshire Farm is run by the Jackson family who have farmed at Teuthill Farm in Frodsham, Cheshire for the past 5 generations. As a small boy Paul Jackson remembers seeing a queue of local people down the lane waiting to buy their freshly dug potatoes. His father would dig the potatoes which were sold within minutes by his mother. Although many things have changed at the farm, the family passion for growing fresh local potatoes for local people remains.
Cheshire Farm Chips was founded in June 2010. Having always grown potatoes on the farm it has naturally evolved from selling potatoes from the then farm shop, to supplying food service (which they still do today).
During this time there was a huge demand for the products to be available for customers to enjoy at home, so as a result they launched the retail range which is available in a number of outlets up and down the country including our own Hollies Farm Shop, Applegates, Whitmore & White, Clewlows, The Lambing Shed, Bents Garden Centre, Morrisons, Waitrose, Spar and Booths.
Paul and Wendy took over the running of Teuthill Farm from Paul’s parents in 1997, and have put plenty of passion and knowledge into growing award winning potatoes which they use to create an amazing product range.
Following the completion of her university degree Paul and Wendy’s daughter Lucy, joined the family business heading up the sales and marketing team.
A real independent family venture the passion they have for what they do is evident in every element of their business.
Not only do they grow and harvest in excess of 6 million potatoes (even a few by hand) they are constantly experimenting and adding to their range. Their website and social media is full of recipe ideas so potato fans can find inspiration to add potatoes into dinner, lunch and breakfast!
There are no additives in their range, they have gluten free and vegetarian options and some are even Slimming World friendly…
So this National Potato Day why not try something different, but most importantly local!
20 years ago, Paul & Wendy decided to start chipping their Cheshire potatoes and selling them to local pubs and restaurants, it was a huge success and so Cheshire Farm Chips began!
