Doing a job like mine isn’t easy when someone asks you what your favourite meal to eat is! Everyone has those special meals that bring back memories and puts them to the top of the list, but if we are going for consistency then Pizza definitely tops that list. In my opinion there is pretty much a pizza for everyone. So, when you and the group have all been on diets, for what feels like forever and want a blowout meal post races, there was just ONE place at the top of our list – Urbano 32.

We were lucky enough to get a booking in the upstairs area, which has increased the capacity by a fair few tables and was the perfect setting for a girly meal of 4 slightly soggy race goers. With a great atmosphere and vibe, but quiet enough to actually hear your guests.

Urbano 32 serves sourdough pizzas, antipasti, and daily specials alongside a wonderful wine and craft beer section and defined cocktail list. Now I must confess to being a regular at Urbano and I already knew my order from the moment we stepped through the door. We were all rather hungry so after a quick perusal of the menu we decided to skip the antipasti and go straight for the pizzas. I already knew I was going for the Portobello Mushroom, Garlic Butter, Goats Cheese, Rosemary pizza – this is my go-to. I love the fact this pizza has such amazing flavour and texture without the standard tomato-based sauce, it has a crispy base, but you can taste every single ingredient. For me it doesn’t get better than that, however the choices of the other girls did turn my head and with all the new additions to the menu my trusty choice may have to take a back seat on my next visit.

Emily’s choice of the Chicken, Sun Dried Tomato, Pesto, Pine Nuts, Tomato and Mozzarella was a traditional choice but with lots of great textures – the pine nuts were a huge hit and the bite from the sundried tomatoes was perfectly matched by the creamy gooey mozzarella.

Becky opted for the Pork Meatballs, Cream, Parmesan, Red Onion and Rocket another great option on the menu for those that don’t want a tomato-based sauce, the meatballs had great flavour and the balance between flavours of the onion, rocket and meatballs is brilliant.

Leah, the only one of the group to spread her wings, went for one of the specials- the delicious Prosciutto & Mascarpone with Pesto and Parmesan. The dough was a great thickness and such a simple idea but made with great quality ingredients which meant the flavour really came through – every bite was consistent. We had words with the wonderful Claire, and we are hoping this soon makes its way on to the regular menu.

Now I cannot allow a visit to Urbano to go by without their beautiful Chilli and Parmesan Polenta Fries, chunky cut, fried until crisp and seasoned to perfection, then topped with Parmesan flake and chilli. They complement absolutely everything on the menu and are a must try. Concerned that we wanted a little more freshness we also tried the Buffalo Mozzarella, Pesto, Tomato, and Basil side, so refreshing and I have been craving more of that pesto since.

We went for a bottle of white for the table to share, the team have a great selection and can talk you through the choices available – they have had a lot of training, with their regular wine tasting evenings, which again can certainly recommend.

As wonderful as the food at Urbano is, it is matched by the wonderful service the very smiley team who aren’t in your face but very attentive and this really adds to the atmosphere of the place. If you haven’t visited Urbano 32 yet, pop in to see Claire and the wonderful and give the new menu a try.
