What a week we had last week at Taste Cheshire! We’ve had some amazing members join and we attended the Royal Cheshire County Show. It was a great event for Taste Cheshire and our members.

The Royal Cheshire Show is a huge event in the North West that celebrates all that is great about the countryside and has been held for 180 years. The Cheshire Show brings together aspects of rural life and farming in a beautiful setting of Knutsford countryside. Over the two days there were various competitions and shows held crowning the best of the best. It’s an amazing event for the agricultural and producer communities in Cheshire to show that they have to offer.

At the front of the Agri Centre were cows, pigs, sheep and various stalls – it was a great space for the school children that attended to learn more about where their food comes from. The Red Tractor Brand was there showing the importance of trusting the red tractor brand when buying. At the back of the Agri Centre, there were some amazing vendors including Burt’s Blue Cheese, Cottom Foods – who brought their new Squig Sausages, Seven Sisters Ice-Cream and the Taste Cheshire team. We were there to meet some amazing producers and to host children’s cookery classes, which were extremely educational for the children that attended them.

Emma Shawcross, the development chef at Taste Cheshire, hosted our children’s cookery classes and cooked up some tasty treats including butternut squash, pine nut and rocket pasta. We’ll be posting the recipes we used soon so keep an eye out for those. For many of the children there, it was an experience cooking certain foods for the first time and for some, cooking for the first time.

While we were cooking up a storm, Jean Christophe Novelli stopped by to help our chef and the children cook up some tasty treats. One of the focuses of the cooking sessions was developing skills from cutting the proper way to stirring food on a hob; the children did an amazing job developing their skills.

Throughout the Cheshire Show, Brian Mellor, from Harthill Cookery School, was in the Food tent with students from Cheshire College demonstrating cooking some delicious food including Ratatouille with Jean Christophe Novelli. Brian stopped by our tent to lend a hand with the help of the budding chefs from Cheshire College after their demonstrations on the second day. The Chefs were great at helping the local school children develop their techniques. It was a pleasure to have them there.

It was a great couple of days seeing some of our producers in action, meeting new people and teaching children how to cook. We can’t wait to come back next year
