Cheshire Pub Co. can announce that the doors to one of Cheshire’s oldest and much-loved pubs will reopen again on Wednesday, 22nd February.

This seventh venture for Cheshire Pub Co. welcomes an exciting new partnership with esteemed Manchester brewer, Joseph Holt. The relaunch comes after a four-month refurb which has added some changes including a sensitive lick of paint, new joinery and subtle structural modifications which have added a little luxury, privacy and a bit of those Cheshire Pub Co. comforts recognisable to those who know and love the brand already. In traditional Cheshire Pub Co. style, their design team have put in effort during the refurb into reclaiming traditional furniture and decorative items to use throughout the pub. Not only does this ensure the company remains kind to the planet, it also adds those little key Cheshire Pub Co. features, which provide great talking points for guests.

The Ship Styal remains the longest pub to be part of the group which opened as a Cheshire Pub Co. managed Freehouse in 2014. On from this, their latest ventures include The Frozen Mop in late 2019,  The Churchill Tree at Alderley Park, and the Crown and Conspirator, Bramhall in 2020. The group then launched a first in way of a vegan enterprise called Otto Vegan Empire to cater for the rise of more specialised diets, before launching The Space Invader, Goostrey in 2022 after an extensive refurb brought an old local pastime back from the brink.

The Cock O’Budworth’s new menu offers ‘food for thought’ and has been designed with the local palette in mind. Guests will enjoy seasonal and signature Cheshire Pub Co. dishes such as fish and chips, camembert sharer and the famous scotch egg, whilst also giving guests the option to swoon over a more nostalgic section of the menu, which offers dishes to stir up great memories. Find delicious Spam Fritters, Chicken Cordon Bleu and even the fabulous Banana Split there for the taking. The Cock O’ Budworth will have particular emphasis on a family offering. Little ones will be able to play on the rear climbing facilities and in the spacious garden area ahead of enjoying our colouring collection and our delicious children’s menu.

Cheshire Pub Co. bosses explain how collectively their family’s love for Holt’s beer, and their fond memories of visiting Joseph Holt’s pubs when they were younger, meant that the decision to form a partnership with them now as businessmen was an easy one. Simon Kalton, Director at Cheshire Pub Co. adds how, “Joseph Holt’s beer is a Manchester institution, and it is a great pleasure to be working with them to deliver something traditional and a little different to the village of Budworth and beyond.

Niall McCloskey, area manager for Joseph Holt adds, “we are excited about this new collaboration which aims to enhance both brands, adding great Manchester beer to a great Cheshire based pub operation.”

The CPC team particularly express their interested in the historic memoirs of the pub and have come across great literature which showcases one of the first references to the Cock O’ Budworth, which you can now find hung on the walls and scrawled on the old bar beams.

Matt Parker, Managing Director for Cheshire Pub Co. says “it’s been an exciting journey already here in Great Budworth and we look forward to providing an offering which attracts local guests and those from afar looking for a premium pub offering and great value which doesn’t compromise on quality. There is no doubt that all pubs will have a challenging year ahead, but we are confident this new partnership will be a positive journey for Cheshire Pub Co. and Joseph Holt, as well as the local community.

Jenny Bufton, Head of Brand says, “our team look forward to wrapping their arms around this new community and welcoming them into our Cheshire Pub Co. family. The new opening marks the latest chapter for this village pub, and we are proud to be taking the reins.”

The Cock O’ Budworth will officially open its doors this Wednesday, 22nd February. The team welcomes the village of Great Budworth and the surrounding areas to the launch party on Tuesday, 21st February.
