Suburban Sunday and Wine of the Month #Blog

There really isn’t anything more British than a classic Sunday Roast and whilst it may be a classic, The Suburbs Sunday Roast is far from boring.

Let’s talk about the important things;

Firstly. portion size. This mammoth plate of deliciousness warrants no complaints.

Secondly, Taste.  perfectly cooked, melt in the mouth beef (for me) and delightful Lamb (for Briony), creamy, cheesy cauliflower cheese (its actually oozes), soft potatoes, sweet carrots, slightly crunchy broccoli and the all important giant Yorkshire pudding. Spot on.

Plus the added extra of a huge Aladdin’s lamp style gravy boat to drench it all in.

Thirdly, atmosphere. The Suburbs is quirky and friendly. The service is attentive and immaculate and there is nothing more relaxing on a Sunday than being waited on hand and foot.

Fourthly, price. Sunday Roast including a delicious glass of wine is only £14.50. Wallet friendly too.

and Finally, what to do after….

Well after a massive plate of food this delicious, the best thing to do is settle in with a brilliant bottle of Sunday Red Wine and set the world to rights.

This month’s WINE OF THE MONTH is found at The Suburbs : – PATRIA NUEVA, Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2016

This Red, Bold, Full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly oaked and is perfect with Sunday Roast, or Short Ribs. It’s slight nutty finish would also go well with Vegetarian roast options.

The flavours of ripe strawberries, liquorice and caramel notes lead to a firm and robust palate. This wine is well structured and  delivers plenty of character including warm raspberries, tobacco smoke and some pepper spices. it’s finish is long and complex, and excites you to take the next sip.

It smells of dark cherry, strawberry, cedar and liquorice, it’s 13.5% by volume so it’s not messing around. Sip it slowly to enjoy it’s full flavour.

It’s made by Survalles, one of the largest wine exporters in Chile with more than 50 years of experience in the wine industry. The Patria Nueva brand features stallions on their bottle to commemorate a courageous group of horsemen. In February 1817 they crossed the Andes mountains to reach the independence of Chile from Spain.

I love this wine particularly as its history and philosophy is to champion the power, nobility and bravery of independence. The Suburbs as a small independent eaterie feels like the perfect place to enjoy this wine.

Patria Nueva  take all the necessary steps to express the highest quality of the freshness and flavor of their region in each bottle and, thereby, ensure that their consumers enjoy their first glass as much has their last one, a philosophy very much mirrored by The Suburbs and its staff.
