While the supper club scene may be more prominent in larger cities, Cheshire has its own gems to discover. Here are a few examples:

This month, Taste Cheshire were included in a fabulous Supper Club hosted by Petal and Plate with Fika+ in Chester’s Grosvenor Park. Sheila and Maria run thoughtful, seasonal events blending floral artistry & curated dining.
Stepping into Petal & Plate’s Scandinavian-inspired supper club felt like entering a warm embrace. The cosy elegance of the space, with its natural touches and soft lighting, immediately set a relaxed and intimate tone. We were greeted with a crisp champagne cocktail, the perfect start to an evening that promised to be both beautiful and delicious. Sheila, one of the hosts, had clearly poured her heart into the styling, creating an atmosphere that was both inviting and intentionally curated. It felt like stepping into a stylish Scandinavian home, a haven of hygge.
The multi-course menu, crafted by Maria, was a revelation. Each dish showcased the simple yet exquisite flavours of Scandinavian cuisine. The starter, gin and lime cured trout on homemade black rye bread, was a masterpiece of textures and tastes. The pickled onion, lingonberry jam, and quail egg created a delightful harmony, with a subtle kick from the chilli and saffron. The accompanying Riesling, thoughtfully paired by our hosts, complemented the flavours perfectly. The main course, a wild Scottish venison stew slow-cooked for nine hours, was melt-in-your-mouth tender and deeply flavourful. Served with creamy mash and herb-infused wild mushrooms, it was the epitome of comfort food elevated to fine dining.
Between courses, Sheila led us in a mini floral workshop. It was a joy to learn from her expertise and create our own seasonal arrangements to take home, a tangible reminder of the evening’s beauty. The dessert, a Swedish almond cake with cloudberry ice cream and apple “honey,” was the perfect sweet ending. The cake was light and nutty, the ice cream tart and refreshing, and the apple “honey” added a touch of warmth. The entire experience was a testament to Sheila and Maria’s combined talents, a celebration of food, flowers, and community. It was a truly special evening, one that I won’t soon forget.
