From Friday 11th– Sunday 13th May, Taste Cheshire brought to the Grovesnor Shopping Centre, the Food Fiesta. What’s this you may ask? Well, Taste Cheshire producer members all brought their talents of food and drink making to one market, in support of one charity, Macmillan Cancer, to showcase the best food and drink Cheshire has to offer! Shoppers gathered round and browsed to see what quality, artisan, tasty food and drink really looked like and most importantly tasted like, and weren’t they impressed!
An event this British weather really can’t ruin, given that it is staged in the wonderful atrium of the Grosvenor Shopping centre, opposite Costa Coffee and surrounded by H&M, T K Max and Debenhams, a dream footfall location.
It was three days where there was something for all, as producers got to sell their creations, to food lovers who in turn could buy quality products and of course Macmillan was supported by all you generous people out there, what more could we have asked for?
There’s something about local food that screams out quality and taste. Why eat what everyone else is eating, set your own trend and support a local producer. Want to be let in on a secret of the best drinks and food that little money can buy? Well we can help you with that. With an insight on some of the local businesses that attended, here’s why they are worth buying from.
First up, we have Riverside Spirits who sure do love to mix things up when it comes to alcoholic beverages. And boy do we love it! They brought flavoured liqueurs to the fiesta and added something more to what could have been missing from alcoholic beverages. And we think we found an answer! Riverside Spirits passionfruit gin liqueurs, also called “sunshine in a bottle’. It can be combined with ice and prosecco, to make a refreshing hot summers evening choice for a summers drink. I can assure you their flavoured Gin and Vodka liqueurs are mouth-watering and delicious and let’s just say set a party off in my mouth! Based on the River Mersey, they consider themselves lucky that they’re able to use delicious local fruits and this is one of the great things about shopping local, is that you’re usually not just helping one local business but many different ones.
One of the best things about the Food Fiesta we put on is seeing the local community supporting local businesses. One of Taste Cheshire’s newer producers Caroline from Ridiculously Rich by Alana, was amongst the talent displayed at the fiesta. Caroline mentioned that she had some new flavours and sweet treats being released this summer, however, she wouldn’t divulge what the treats were, saying they were “top secret.” But we can tell you what makes Alana’s cakes different from something you would buy at Costa or Starbucks, as you may ask, and that is that it is all made from a kitchen, playing around with flavour and texture. Made with passion and creativity, you aren’t tasting the commercial taste that has been repeated by many, but instead homemade flavour you can’t get anywhere else. With her endless devotion to finding that flavour that tickles the back of your throat, she is always thriving for that perfect taste, being flavour obsessed, and her cakes being indulgent is her motivation. Years of kitchen research, tasting and trialling, she wont just choose anything for her lovely customers. Just think, food tastes better when grandmothers make it right? That’s because they have trialled and errored, to find that special taste to add to their homemade secret recipe.
So why buy from local producers? Well there’s one answer to this, and that is, the taste of course! Yes, buying locally brings more money within your community, helps the environment with reducing carbon emissions but regarding the taste, the thing you really want to know about, local produce is fresher, and doesn’t it just taste better? It hasn’t travelled far and goes straight from the kitchen or farm to you!
If you missed out on our Food Fiesta, don’t worry we have another one coming up in October that we’ll be revealing more information about soon. Stay updated, if you liked what you have read, and are ready for so much more!
