This Tuesday myself and Gavin were joined by Darren Andrews from Big 5 sauces. Big 5 Sauces and Marinades are inspired his South African roots. The sauces came out of Darren’s South African catering business famous for his Hog Roasts where he was making his own sauces which people were always asking to buy, this proved the need to bottle these wonderful products.

The products are each inspired by different areas or South Africa and the different cultures of those areas. Darren’s current range includes the; Big 5 Zingy BBQ Sauce, Big 5 Cape Malay Curry Sauce, Big 5 Durban Curry Sauce and Big 5 Roast Chilli & Garlic Paste which works as a great marinade.

We managed to get the exclusive last night that Big 5 won stars at the Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Foods for his Zingy BBQ sauce perfect for steak, sausages, burgers and hog roast. The Cape Malay also manged to earn stars not surprisingly as it is the best seller, really sweet at first but with a flavour that really evolves as you eat.

The sauces are all vegan so as well as being great with meat they are also the perfect treat for anyone that loves the South African flavours. The Durban Curry, slight milder than what you would eat in South Africa, is a really smooth curry and packed with flavour. Finally, we tried the marinade which could elevate all sorts of meals including pasta, or use to marinade meats and fish.
