This week myself and Gavin were joined by the wonderful Will and Ian from Cottom Foods. Will is a fourth generation sausage maker, who learnt his skills from his father in there family butchers founded in the North East over 100 hundred years ago. Will bought the business in 2015, and has taken it from strength to strength. Cottom have recently won Best Flavoured Sausage at the Chester Food and Drink Festival, this is the second year of winning this competition and with this success they have been put forward to compete in the Champion of Champions, judged later this year. Ian is in charge of sales and has recently joined the business.
Will and Ian are really passionate about producing a great quality product with amazing taste. They stick to a traditional method of mince and mix, using the best ingredients and work very hard to create a product unique to Cottom. The company is growing from strength to strength and there sausages are now available at Home bargains as well as many hotels and restaurants around the area.
We were lucky enough to enjoy 2 of Cottom’s many varieties of sausage, we tried both award winners from the Chester food drink and lifestyle festival from 2016 and 2017. First the Old English, unfortunately the recipe is a secret, so you will have to try it to find out more, second we tried the Pork a cracked black pepper sausage, a long term high seller with great flavour.
So get yourself down to the shops and try one of the many wonderful flavours, Will mentioned that over 80% of sales are from just plain Pork sausages, after trying some of these flavour that will no longer be the chase. Cottom’s also sell traditionally made Black pudding.
Cottom Foods is a family business for nearly 20 years. Food manufacturers producing delicious pies and tasty sausages!
