The Taste Cheshire Round Up – This foodie week in Cheshire #Blog

12th October 2021

We love Social Media, it gives us so much opportunity to keep up to date with all the news and happenings in our lovely County. Of course, in reality, we can’t be everywhere at once, so it’s great firstly for us to be able to see what our foodie friends are up to and secondly for us to share it with you.

However, it’s easy to miss posts. The ever so clever algorithms keep changing and its hard to keep up, so here’s a little round up of this week’s best of social…news…events and a few things I just found interesting or entertaining.

Don’t forget for more deals, packages and offers you can skip to our deals page or if you’re looking for something to do, then hop over to events.

NEWS

Three Wrens Gins have everything crossed this week as they are up for the prestigious GOLDEN FORK award as part of this year’s Great Taste Awards. Those of you paying attention will have noticed they already snagged three coveted gold stars for their Apple Crumble Gin but this award would be next level.

The regional winners will be announced during a special ceremony at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate on Sunday, October 17, following the first day of Fine Food Show North.

Great Taste will then go on to reveal its Supreme Champion 2021, which is quite possibly the biggest prize in food and drink. – Don’t worry, Taste Cheshire will be there at the awards in Harrogate, cheering them on, and keeping you updated live on our social channels.

Speaking of Golden Fork Winners, previous winners Lost Barn Coffee have news too this week, they have new member of their team in the form of a shiny new van.

Why is this news? Well it’s not just any van. 100% electric. That’s right, Zero-waste coffee delivered in a zero-emission, 100% electric van.

With sustainability at the heart of everything Lost Barn Coffee do, this shows their commitment to minimising their footprint.

Give them a wave if you spot them out and about.

Other news from venues this week includes several new menu launches.

Ring O’Bells, Bar Lounge and Little Tap are among those with gorgeous Autumnal highlights on their lists and we thoroughly recommend you try them all.

Please do tag us in your photos so we can see them too!

EVENTS wise, it’s another busy week for us…

This Saturday our Taste Cheshire Farmer’s Market returns to Chester Town Hall Square. The last one before Christmas officially takes over.

We’ll be joined by 27 amazing local companies, showing off local produce and passion for food and drink.

9.30-4.30pm

SEE YOU THERE! Bring a big shopping bag and be prepared to end up purchasing way too many cakes and pies.

UPCOMING….

Lot’s of Spooktacular Halloween stuff is now available from our favourite venues.

Trick or treat?

Personalised Halloween bags are now available in The Barn at Little Budworth at The Hollies farm shop. A super stylish way to carry all that candy!

A little Give n Cake have released their Halloween treat boxes. Available to order now for collection on Saturday 30th  October. Postal order options will go live next Sunday too. I for one, cannot wait to eat ‘witches soup’ in cake form!

There are ‘pick your own Pumpkin’ events in quite a few places around Cheshire.  The Lambing Shed is in full swing at the weekends and is running until 24th October and Backford Belles Ice Cream Farm have added a pumpkin patch for the first time this year. Small but perfectly formed, don’t forget their coffee machine is on and there’s lots of delicious flavours of ice cream to keep everyone happy!

There are lots of brilliant Halloween Events coming up too, The White Horse have their Mini Makery friends returning to do Halloween crafts and delights for the whole family.  Join The White Horse for spooktastic workshops that will keep the little monsters busy, whilst you enjoy some spooky peace in the pub on 25th and 26th October.

Another family friendly event is at The Old Dukes, Dead good… but dead sports players with  PRIZES FOR THE BEST DRESSED GUEST!

Child friendly, spooky movies shown during the day – blood-curling scary movies for adults from 9pm
Look out for Spooky drinks specials and Menu with a spooky twist.

The Biggest Event highlight for us next week is LOVE CHEESE LIVE.

The UK’s largest cheese and food weekender is coming 22nd and 23rd October 2021, including cooking inspiration, shopping and tasting – a fantastic line-up of the UK’s best chefs and experts cooking live, the finest dairy brands, exciting new flavours, the latest trends and carefully selected independent producers of the finest food, drink and culinary products from the country.

Now, we know it’s confusing, because this is in Staffordshire, and we are Taste Cheshire, but stay with us…

This event used to be held in Nantwich as the International Cheese and Dairy Awards. It’s been moved to Staffordshire for the first time this year but to maintain a Cheshire element, we are running a section, showcasing Cheshire producers.

For more info about this event or if you want to join us, head here:- Love Cheese Live | 22/23 October 2021 | Bingley Hall Staffs

We’ll be keeping you up to date on our socials. Looking forward to watching some demos and eating LOTS and LOTS of Cheese.

and Finally, October is Pizza Month.

I know it’s hard to believe I didn’t just make that up because I love Pizza so much, but I absolutely promise you, I do not need the excuse!

Pizza Month was originally created as an American observance and was celebrated for the first time in October 1984. It was created by Gerry Durnell, publisher of Pizza Today, a magazine dedicated to this delicious dish. For more than 30 years, this month has been a fitting tribute to this iconic Italian delight.

Our social media has featured some of our favourite Cheshire Pizzas.

The best pizzas in Cheshire in our opinion, but we are more than happy to hear from you if you feel we’ve missed anyone or if you think we should try your personal favourite too!

Enjoy the pizza goodness, and let’s keep Pizza month going for another 30 years!
