Local Cheshire-based gin business, Three Wrens, have opened the doors to their highly anticipated new distillery in Combermere, Cheshire, 5 miles from their home town of Nantwich, and a mile from the border of Shropshire. The new site is several times bigger than their previous premises in Cholmondeley, with a large visitors area, cocktail bar, gin school, and unique ‘wall of distillates’ where visitors can blend their own unique gin on the spot.
Distilling and gin tasting experiences will be offered to the public, beginning on 19th March. Visitors can pre-book a full gin tasting experience and tour for £25, or visit to distil their very own bottle of gin, choosing from a considered selection of traditional & exotic botanicals. Distilling experiences start from £90, and include a welcome cocktail, full gin tasting, lunch and your own bottle of bespoke gin. With seating for 36 distillers, it has become Cheshire’s largest gin school.
The opening comes as the local brand scoops up a number of internationally acclaimed awards, including the Golden Fork award (and a 3 star accreditation) at the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards. Three Wrens’ pioneering bison grass gin also scooped the UK’s Best Flavoured Gin award at the 2021 Great British Food Awards and recently a gold medal at the 2022 World Gin Awards.
Owner and distiller, Nick Wadeson, commented on the successes: “The new distillery is testament to how far the business has come since we founded it in August 2019, it’s an amazing space and really shows off everything we do as a family-run Cheshire producer. We ultimately needed more space to distil, distribute, and keep up with the growing demand of our experience days. We know we’re going to be able to offer a truly unique experience here, and we have tried to create a paradise for gin lovers, where you can explore, learn & create. Our current project is now to create a new botanical garden and indoor vertical planting system where you can pick fresh ingredients to use in your gin.”
Three Wrens Gin operates an open-door policy at the distillery, allowing customers to drop in during the week, watch the award-winning gin production and sample the range for free. Their new ‘blend your own gin’ experience will launch from 19th March which is unique in the region, guests can drop in and blend their own personalised gin on the spot, using a combination of botanicals expertly pre-distilled by owner, Nick and assistant distiller, Fran Jones. Fran described the experience as ‘a voyage of botanical discovery;’ and worked on the project for six months prior to the move, separately distilling over 60 ingredients for visitors to choose from.
Three Wrens Distillery is open Monday-Saturday from 10am-6pm. Gin re-fills are available from the distillery as part of their ongoing efforts to be more sustainable, so you can bring in your Three Wrens bottle to be topped-up and save £5 off the retail price. There is a fantastic new café on site called the ‘Old Piggery’ and plenty to do in the area, including fantastic walks and visits to medieval castles.
You can find Three Wrens at the bustling park view business centre, part of Combermere Abbey Estate. Three Wrens and Combermere Abbey will be working together closely offering luxury ‘gin breaks’ and collaborating on various events.
In a partnership with Go-Too Rural Buses, you can now pre-book a journey to the distillery from Nantwich, get dropped off right outside the distillery doors and picked up afterwards, allowing for easy travel to and from the new premises for locals. There is also ample parking on site. The full address is JUNIPER HOUSE, PARK VIEW BUSINESS CENTRE, COMBERMERE, CHESHIRE, SY134AL.
