To market we go! #Blog

Today marks an important event in the city of Chester. The new Chester Market, 25 years in the making, has finally opened after a weekend of VIP and preview events.

The opening ribbon was cut by Geoff Hughes, who has been part of Chester Market since 1996, with Geoff Hughes family butchers.

His stall, along with thirty-eight others have been constructed from solid oak beams in a beautiful reimagining of what a market can look like. This new market delivers on an incredible combination of forward-thinking design and respect for the history of both Chester and the previous market.

There are four communal seating areas of diverse types. There is a central bar with beautiful arches, a stage set for live music and a large screen TV to watch communal events.

The new market replaces the previous market which has become derelict and dangerous and many of the existing traders have either moved to the new market or out onto the High Street in Chester. There are some real success stories here and Taste Cheshire are inspired by them.

This is not just a building; it is a new community food hub, and we will no doubt spent hours they’re enjoying the unique blend of produce good food and drink.

Here you can shop local and eat global.

Taste Cheshire spent several hours this weekend at the new Lockwood & Co bar in the market, enjoying the atmosphere and seeing the delight on people’s faces as they explored the quirky design and fabulous food of this amazing new venue. We thoroughly recommend you check it out for yourselves. Personal favourites (this week, subject to change!) are the stunning delectable delights from the Pastry Pédaleur – a transfer from the old market, and the phenomenal fresh pasta kitchen where you can watch your food being made, a new addition but sure to be a hit! Do not miss a brilliant brew from Taste Cheshire members Bean & Cole too. Always excellent.

Remember, they are closed on Monday, but they will be open 8 am to 10 pm Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 9 pm on Sunday.

It is not the only market however that is on everyone’s lips at the moment. We are only 10 days away from the arrival of Chester Christmas market.

Yes, I said it, Christmas.

Chester Christmas begins on Friday, November 18 and runs until Wednesday, December 21 the area outside the town hall will once again be taken over by the beautiful trading chalets with everything on offer from hot and cold, food drinks, craft, homeware, and fashion.

So, with all this on offer are both in the indoor market and the outdoor market. It has never been easier to shop local this Christmas and it has never been more important.

Did you know this year will be the Christmas Market’s 10th anniversary?!

With the cost-of-living price increases, putting money back into a local economy is key, and when you buy local, we all benefit.

Team, Taste Cheshire will once again be helping on market, stalls the Christmas market across the period. We would love to see you and spread some Christmas cheer.
