Can you believe it? It’s tasty Thursday once more and this week Angela Ferguson, editor of the We Are Chester blog, takes a look at just some of the tempting offerings available at our wide-ranging indie cafes and restaurants in Chester.
At We Are Chester we cover artistic and cultural happenings in and around our city, but we also enjoy our food. It is, after all, often the perfect accompaniment to a trip out to the theatre or to catch an open mic night or a gig, whether it be some light bites or a sumptuous meal. Yes, it’s fair to say that we are a tad obsessed with food.
And it is no exaggeration to say that in Chester we are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to places to go. We have a wide array of indie cafes and restaurants, alongside national chains, so much so that it is hard to pick out any favourites when people enquire as to good places to eat.
It’s always fascinating to check out a Chester foodie thread on Twitter, for example, when someone might enquire as to good places for vegans to go in the city. And before you know it a whole host of foodies have chipped in with some top suggestions. If vegan food is your thing then Chester Visitor Information Centre have a whole list of suggestions. There’s also a list of recommendations available courtesy of Chester Vegan Project’s Facebook page.
So, as difficult as it is to choose any favourites, let’s make a start with just some of our suggestions for rather splendid eateries in the city.
We love to make the most of our indie offerings, including the likes of Meltdown in Handbridge, where the scrumptious food will truly ‘melt’ your heart, along with the uber lovely owner Laura, whose passion for food is evident in her funky menu and her rapidly growing following.
And, being theatre bods, we do love to hang out at Storyhouse on a regular basis, sometimes sampling the Eastern Mediterranean delights of its gloriously welcoming Kitchen. The menu includes the likes of Persian meatballs and Yemeni falafel. Trust us, you will want to return for more after a visit here.
We’ve also been out and reviewed the delicious Odd Plates offering at quirky townhouse Oddfellows, along with the divine modern Greek food offered at Olive Tree Brasserie.
While out and about pursuing all things artistic and cultural, the We Are Chester team also love a good cuppa or two and maybe even a slice of cake or a spot of brunch, with fab coffee shops such as The Baristas and Jaunty Goat, Little Yellow Pig and The Flower Cup among our favourite haunts. And over on our website our writer Josie Penfold also reviewed the enticing brunch offering at new kid on the block Short and Stout in Hoole. It’s run with love by foodie couple Will and Sarah, who were inspired by the Aussie lifestyle and passion for all things brunch-related.
We can’t do justice to all of the good stuff going on in and around Chester in one blog post so watch out for more from us in future, when we may very well be tempted to focus in on some of our recommendations.
Thanks Angela! For more on food and all things artistic and cultural check out the website and feel free to give them a follow on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We look forward to hearing more from Angela soon.
