Wine of the Month – Saturday Sauvignon #Wine

Victoria Hayes
27th May 2019

Growing up, Saturday afternoons for my Mumma and her friends, were always about getting together, setting the world to rights, having a good old-fashioned gossip and drinking a bottle or two of good white wine.

It was a wonderful tradition, as a good wine loosens the lips and allows a better flow of conversation. In the busy world of motherhood and work, conversation and connection with other mothers is important.

Inspired by that this month;

Our Wine of the Month is – Domaine Des Petits Faiteaux Sauvignon de Touraine

So, what makes this a good “Saturday afternoon wine”?

It’s crisp with lively herbaceous and citrus flavours, a good weight on the palate and a clean, fresh finish with a hint of minerality.

Fruity and acidic, to perfectly match the conversation.

It needs to complement the food, which this does, as it suits fish dishes and goat’s cheese particularly well, both of which often feature in the light bites and salads which are the trademark ladies that lunch fayre.

This wine is a young one and plays its role as a “wine of thirst” very well. It has leafy and herbaceous aromas and a clean, fresh finish.

Let’s talk about where it’s from.

Touraine in the Loire valley is better known for its castles than its wine. It’s not the “queen on the Loire valley”, but give it a try, because if you spend any time there, you’ll find the wines of the region to be beautiful. Reds from the region are mostly the Gamay grape and whites the Sauvignon which gives all their wines a lightness. The wines are marked by their fruitiness, the power of the clay soil, with both chalk and flint which adds character.

This wine is made 60km east of Tours by the wine maker Dominique Girault. A winemaker for many generations on their 18 hectares in Noyers – sur- Cher.

The grapes for this Cuvee are 100% Sauvignon Blanc and were hand harvested in September to retain freshness and acidity before traditional vinification in stainless steel at low temperatures.

Where can you find this wine?

At 13% alcohol by volume, this is a wine to settle in for a good gossip with and where better to enjoy it, than where I found it, Lost and Found in Knutsford.

They certainly know their wines, and treat the bottles as VIPs in their special wine cellar, make sure you check it out when you’re there.

I tried this particular wine at the recommendation of their charming and knowledgeable staff and was delighted to enjoy a glass. I would be more than happy to while away an afternoon at this wonderful venue sipping this wine. I shall certainly recommend it to Mumma.
