World Cheese Awards 2022 – Open for Entries #News

Victoria Hayes
16th August 2022

A truly global event, the World Cheese Awards brings cheesemakers, buyers, cheesemongers and food commentators together from around the world to judge nearly 4,000 cheeses from over 40 countries.

Cheeses are sent from all round the world to be judged in a single day by carefully assembled teams of technical experts, buyers, retailers and food writers.

Judges work in teams to identify any cheeses worthy of a Bronze, Silver, Gold OR Super Gold award, plus both country and cheese specific trophies.
They assess the look, feel, smell and taste of each entry, scoring aspects such as the appearance of the rind, as well as the aroma, body and texture, with the majority of points awarded for flavour and mouthfeel.

The Super Jury, representing all four corners of the globe, debate the final cheeses in front of a live consumer and trade audience, before choosing the World Champion Cheese.

Over the last 30 years they have nurtured worldwide consolidation points where entries can be safely delivered and forwarded to the awards in good condition and on time. For the 2022 World Cheese Awards, a number of consolidation points have been organised across the globe to receive entries from cheesemakers to be transported to the judging venue
This makes it much easier for entrants to send their cheeses internationally, with lobal consolidation points assisting with of all the export paperwork
The consolidation points are totally unique to the World Cheese Awards and no other awards have a network so far reaching and diverse to offer safe delivery for entries.

We should have been in Kyiv in November this year. The Guild of Fine Food, organisers of World Cheese, will be working hard to ensure that our support for the
cheesemakers of Ukraine is continued this year and beyond. It is a postponement, rather than a cancellation.

It is with enormous pride and excitement, that they are taking the 2022 edition of the World Cheese Awards to Wales, supported by the Welsh Government.
