A Taste of Brazil at The Rose & Crown: A Night to Remember! #Out and About

Last week, I had the pleasure of venturing to The Rose & Crown in Knutsford for their Brazilian Night, and let me tell you, it was an experience that transported me straight to South America (well, almost!).

Warm Welcome & Buzzing Atmosphere

The pub itself is a delightful blend of tradition and modern touches, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. We started with a refreshing spritz at the bar, the room already buzzing with anticipation for the culinary adventure ahead. A quick peek outside revealed a stunning beer garden, and I couldn’t help but dream of balmy summer evenings with a Brazilian BBQ – fingers crossed for some proper beer garden weather soon, Rose & Crown!

A Feast for the Senses: Delicious Brazilian Delights

Our taste buds were in for a treat! Chef Gina, a true star of the evening, curated a stunning menu showcasing the vibrant flavors of Brazil. We began by sharing the “Caldinho de feijao,” a black bean broth with crispy bacon, perfect for dipping with toasted casava flour or a touch of Brazilian salsa. The grilled octopus (“Polvo”) was cooked to perfection and nestled on a fresh, crisp salad. And the “bolinho de feijoada,” black bean croquetas, were rich, deeply flavourful – I have to admit, I could have easily devoured a whole plate myself!

Mains Fit for a King (or Queen) Prawn

For the main course, I opted for the “Moqueca,” a cod dish cooked in a creamy coconut milk with peppers, tomatoes, and authentic Oleo de Dende (a staple in Brazilian kitchens). Packed with an incredible amount of fish and served with fluffy rice, it was a vibrant and delicious explosion. My companion, Briony, went for the “bobo de camarao,” king prawns in an exotic and rich cassava cream, served with coriander rice and a green salad. The sheer volume of succulent prawns and the vibrant flavour were truly impressive.

Sweet Ending & Outstanding Service

Despite feeling pleasantly stuffed, we couldn’t resist a taste of Brazil’s sweet side. We shared a “manjar de coco,” a coconut pudding with prune compote. The perfect ending – not overly sweet, but with that delightful firm, jiggly texture characteristic of a good pudding.

A Night to Remember & A Foodie Destination

The entire experience at The Rose & Crown’s Brazilian Night was exceptional. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and incredibly efficient. From the fun and festive atmosphere to the delicious Food, it was a night that went above and beyond a regular Thursday evening out. It solidified The Rose & Crown’s place in my mind as a true foodie destination, one I’ll definitely be revisiting often. Although, a trip to Brazil might be necessary to fully compare – Chef Gina, your culinary skills and the team’s effort deserve all the praise!
