Evening at The Manor at Greasby #Blog

A few weeks ago I had been lucky enough to attend one of The Manor’s opening events so when we were asked to do a review, I was delighted to be able to return to sample the menu!

Our booking was made for 6.40pm and knowing The Manor is dog friendly, we requested a table so we could bring our little dog, Bracken.  We were given a very warm welcome and shown to our table in the dedicated dog area where there was even a bed for Bracken to lie on during her visit and a special menu which included grain free treat pots, Bark Burgers, Fish & Chips and a selection of Dog Drinks, it was exceptional and could teach a number of places what ‘Dog Friendly’ really means!

Now that Bracken was happily settled we got on with deciding what to choose off the menu which had obviously been put together with care and thought for all tastes and palates from pub classics to something a little more adventurous.  I don’t have a huge appetite so decided on two starters, the Twice Cooked Quicke’s Cheddar Cheese Souffle with Parmesan Cream and the Chicken Liver Parfait, with Fig & Date Chutney and homemade Brioche.  My husband chose the Crispy Prawn Tempura with Spicy Ponzu Dip, followed by a Ribeye Steak with Bearnaise sauce, accompanied by roast Vine Tomatoes, marinated Portabello Mushrooms and Homemade Chips.  We also selected a bottle of Victoria, Australian Chardonnay off the extensive wine list.

Whilst we waited for our starters to arrive it gave us the chance to take in the décor, the Nelsons really have created a light and bright space filled with colour and of course you know it’s part of the Nelson group when you see the light fittings which were, as always, stunning!

Our starters duly arrived, my souffle was absolutely delicious, light as air with a rich and creamy Parmesan sauce, it was so good I actually had to use my finger to mop up every last drop of sauce.  The generous serving of Tempura Prawns were super crispy and the tangy Ponzu dip and squeeze of lime, the perfect accompaniment.

Our appetites were well and truly whetted, and we awaited our mains.  The ribeye was a little more cooked than it had been requested, but it didn’t spoil the enjoyment and the bearnaise sauce was well made and full of flavour.  However, the absolute star of the show were the chips, thick cut, golden brown, perfectly crisp and fluffy inside, they were outstanding, and we both agreed they were the best we had eaten in a very long time.  The creamy parfait and brioche were very tasty, and the chutney added sweetness, although my personal preference would be for a slightly more sweet & sour flavour to cut the richness of the parfait.

Now we turned our attention to the dessert menu and as with the mains, there was something for all tastes, including a cheeseboard and a selection of ice creams.  We decided to share and opted for the Chocolate Bombe with Hot Chocolate Sauce, Passion Fruit Gel and Passion Fruit Ice Cream.  It was a bit of a showstopper – a perfect sphere of chocolate which dissolved in the warmth of the chocolate sauce, poured by our waitress, to reveal the ice cream.  The passion fruit was a real winner with the rich chocolate and if you happen to be a chocolate lover, this is definitely the dessert for you!

Our meal had come to an end, but just before we left we were shown the private dining room.  There are very few places that offer such a facility and for a party of 6-10 guests, this would be perfect, it is a great addition to this lovely restaurant and of course for larger parties there is The Barn, decorated to a very high standard and a wonderful venue to celebrate a special occasion.

The Manor is certainly a huge asset to the area and if our visit was anything to go by, it will undoubtedly succeed.  Beautifully decorated, really lovely staff, good food and of course, those chips……..!!!
