Lovely Lunch out At The Hollows #Review

Had a lovely lunch At the Hollows on Tuesday, and what a great experience it was. We tasted a vast range of the small dishes on the menu; which has a great offering for all from meat to fish and veggie to vegan. Not to forget their extensive wine and cocktail selection.

We started with Oysters from the specialised Oyster and Charcuterie bar, paired perfectly with a cucumber and Arenkha, and for those who like it hot a dash of Tobasco. The perfect match for our wine choice of Fannini, a white sparkling wine from Hungary which we would highly recommend.  It also comes in Rose, should you prefer.

Our server Joni was a credit to the Hollows, with great knowledge of the menu and service with a smile. The food came quickly but this did not compete with the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant allowing us to bask in the sun for a little while, as we were lucky enough to get one of the window seats.

We had six of the small dishes on the menu including some of the best sellers; first came the Tamarind Pork Belly. The meat was very succulent and flavoursome and one of our favourite dishes. Alongside this we had the Halloumi, tomato and pickled shallots salad and the tabbouleh a mix of quinoa, tomatoes and gem lettuce. Together this made a very refreshing plateful, and the Halloumi was perfectly cooked, adding to the texture and flavours of the dishes.

Next we had the Lamb Poutine, a high class version of the Canadian dish of French fries, cheese curds and gravy. The Hollows have tarter up the dish with succulent lamb, goat’s cheese, crispy potatoes, and rosemary jus; this was my personal favourite and an original twist on an upcoming dish. New to our pallets but highly recommended from the staff was the Okonomiyaki a pancake with cabbage, chilli, cheese and garlic mayo, I’m not sure where else in Chester you will be able to get this dish so it’s certainly worth a visit to try. Finally we had the Braised Lentils and Chilli Non-Carne & Rice, the perfect vegetarian dish, which even as meat lovers we really enjoyed.

The meal left us well and truly stuffed and we didn’t manage to finish all the dishes, our eyes were certainly bigger than our stomachs with 6 dishes but we can’t complain after such a lovely complementing selection of dishes. At The Hollows is definitely worth a visit, I’m certain we will be back again soon.
