Pan Seared Hake

Taste Cheshire were delighted to be invited to experience lunch at Restaurant Twenty2, Edgar House. And what an absolute delight it was.

On arrival, via Chester City Walls, we were welcomed by a member of the restaurant team who asked if we would prefer to eat inside or out and although the pretty garden looked the perfect setting for an al fresco lunch, it was a bit on the chilly side, so we decided on the indoor option! The restaurant is a very elegant and opulent dining room and its low chandelier lighting and soft music really add to the ambience.

We were presented with the Midweek Lunch Menu and offered a wine list. There were 3 starter options, 4 mains and 3 desserts. Diners can choose from two courses for £22 or 3 courses for £26 and although everything sounded delicious, as two girls who are used to just having no more than a sandwich for lunch, we decided to just have a main course!

As our drinks order was taken, we were presented with some complimentary Rosemary & Olive Ciabatta with butter which was a lovely surprise and quite delicious.

Our main course choices were the Butternut Squash and Summer Truffle Risotto and Pan Seared Fleetwood Landed Hake, Citrus Crushed Potatoes & Saffron Hollandaise. The risotto was served on a white china plate, bright orange from the squash topped with lashings of truffle and Parmesan shavings. It was rich, but every element of the dish was wonderful and left me feeling full, but not uncomfortably so. The Hake, crushed potatoes and hollandaise were accompanied by white asparagus and was again a beautifully presented dish with fabulous colours. The hollandaise was sharp with vinegar, but this complimented the slight saltiness of the fish. Throughout our meal the service was excellent and although extremely attentive, it was in no way intrusive.

We declined the option of dessert, although they all sounded fabulous and if they were up to the standard of our mains, which I have no doubt they would have been, we most certainly wouldn’t have been disappointed.

During our visit, we were lucky enough to have a peek at some of the lounge area rooms and one of the bedrooms. What a Wow factor! Everything has been beautifully designed and each room has been individually decorated, even down to the Edgar Beds which allow guests to have great river views from the comfort of their rather beautiful beds. Pure luxury!

Edgar House and Restaurant Twenty2 is definitely a very special place which I would thoroughly recommend and I really can’t wait for the opportunity to go again!
