Michelin Accolades awarded across Cheshire #Blog

Imagine this, you have been dreaming of a restaurant concept. You take the plunge, follow your dreams, your heart and your head and low and behold, six months after opening, Michelin visit you and YOU ARE IN. You are featured in the Michelin Guide with The MICHELIN Plate: Good cooking.

Sounds like a dream right? Well it’s not, it’s exactly what happened to Nick Friar and his team at Hypha.

But what is even more amazing is that this is only Chapter one of his Michelin story.

This week Michelin announced the restaurants featured in their 2021 guide, but they also did something else.  23 restaurants have received a new accolade in the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2021: the Michelin Green Star.
This distinction was created this year to highlight restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices and who act as role models to us all.

Huge congratulations to our friends at Hypha on being one of the first ever to receive this honour.
Incredible.

We enjoyed a visit to Hypha back in September, but if you missed the review you can read it here. We talked a lot then about their sustainable practices and their ethos of “making wastey tasty”!

Hypha aren’t the only ones celebrating Michelin success in our area.

Simon Radley at Chester Grosvenor is nothing short of a culinary icon. Simon has retained his Michelin star this year, for the 30th year on the run. What an incredible achievement, proof that excellence isn’t just about being a flash in pan, consistency is key.

Michelin describes is food as the ” height of luxury and sophistication” and we are happy to agree.

Speaking of consistency, we have to make mention of Joseph Benjamin.

Having first been awarded their Michelin Bib Gourmand award nine years ago, and they have retained it ever since. Another remarkable achievement. Their restaurant is personal and passionate, something  that Michelin tend to reward.

The list of Michelin plate winners locally also reflect this fondness for the personal and passionate.

From Docket no. 33, described as “A sweet little restaurant set in an old market town and run by a friendly couple.” to Next Door in Frodsham; which is supplied from the next door family butcher’s shop that has been going for 3 generations, imbuing your restaurant with you personal life does seem to help Michelin success.

We are so lucky to have such passionate people in the local area, creating amazing food of Michelin quality, and such variety within their styles.

We have the ultimate “steakhouse” in the form of Upstairs at the Grill, always a favourite of team Taste Cheshire.

The inventive and intimate, Chef’s Table, where “Dishes are vibrant and eye-catching with appetising aromas.”

It’s hard to believe that we are not even half way through the list of local restaurants which have pleased and excited the Michelin team.

Special mention for those still serving us during this lockdown 3.0, Porta’s Bbq chorizo roll is out of this world, available al fresco on Friday and Saturdays, Da Noi have an extra ordinary tour of Italy menu, plus valentine specials and Covino’s Pies remain both the stuff of legend and weekly available.

Proof that a lockdown can not stop these Michelin superstars.
