Welcome to The Black Bear, a beautiful medieval building right next to St Alkmund’s Church in the heart of Whitchurch. Sister pub to The Swan at Marbury, The Hare at Farndon and The Henry Potts in Chester.

We’ve got good honest food and drink, including decent wines that we blend and import ourselves and a beer that we brew ourselves, too. We’ve also got a lovely courtyard garden which is very popular. Give us a try, we’d love to see you and think you’ll like it.

Please book either through the online booking system or feel free to use the phone; sorry, but we can’t accept bookings by email or social media. Our policy is not to book out all tables just in case you don’t book in advance.

We are dog friendly in the bar area but they must be on a lead and under control at all times, upon booking please make us aware if you are planning to bring a dog.

There is free wifi should you feel the need to use it, but try not to do too much work, this is a pub after all.
