As we’ve welcomed many new subscribers to our website and newsletter since December, I wanted to start to highlight some of Taste Cheshire’s members and what they do so well, beginning with The Wine School of Cheshire and their signature events, Saturday Wine Schools – they really are a treat!
They are the only wine school to be a member of Wines of Great Britain, the marketing and legal body for the English and Welsh wine industry.
Which brings me on to Gusbourne: Gusbourne are England’s most prestigious winemaker, last year they won more awards at the WineGB awards than any other producer. The Wine School of Cheshire welcome guests to Saturday Wine Schools with a glass of Gusbourne Brut Reserve – a superb vintage English sparkling to rival many well known Champagne houses.
There’s a gift bag with your tasting notes book and a pen and a few treats to take home too and guests are welcomed with a named placard. Saturday wine schools really are like a dinner party with great friends! With a maximum of twelve guests, these intimate afternoons are really fun and you can share your thoughts on the wines as well as the superb artwork at Art Box with other guests.
Did you know they are the only wine school in the UK to use Riedel Performance crystal grape varietal specific glassware? There are the very best wine glasses on the planet to give you the finest wine tasting experience possible.
Saturday wine schools are also a foodie’s paradise! There are five courses for lunch, each paired with a different wine to show you wine and food pairing at its best. There’s plenty of balanced wine education throughout too. You’ll learn how a grape variety can create a completely different flavour dependent on where and in many cases how it’s been grown.
Find out more about the effects of regional climates and how to understand some of the ‘jargon’ on a wine label and what all the swirling and sniffing is really for. Richard loves questions so ask away and let him help you to more about what makes an amazing bottle of wine! What are tannins?, What do legs mean?, Does wine really ‘breathe’? Find out the answers and more!
After dessert they offer guests a breather from the wine – they have their very own single origin coffee (which I am obsessed with and always have too many cups of!) or Cheshire’s Quinteassential teas – and there’s time to mingle too. After that they have some sensational artisan cheeses from Royal Warrant holder Paxton & Whitfield, Britain’s finest cheesemonger – the cheeses are paired with the final red wines – there are 8 wines to enjoy throughout the day.
Are your taste buds suitable tantalised to join us? I hope so!
Perfectly timed for those who may have been trying dry January, they’re featuring France on Saturday 4th February. A super way start to your year ahead of wine discoveries!
France is twice the size of the UK with a similar population so there’s lots of room for vineyards! The climate is incredibly diverse from cooler climate Bordeaux to the somewhat hotter south of France which includes Languedoc, the Rhône Valley and Provence. Did you know that The Loire Valley is home to Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Malbec and Cabernet Franc!?
They’ve added a new date for a Saturday wine school featuring Italy too: Saturday 25th March. Click here to find out more! |
There’s plenty more to choose from through to April. Take a look at all of their events in date order here. There’s a handy new events calendar here too, useful if you’re looking for a specific date to mark a special celebration. |
