Summer Social at Hickory’s #Blog

Hickory’s seemed the perfect setting for our staff social and being a mild summers night, we were pleasantly pleased to be sat outside on a table across from the river.

After ordering a mixture of wine, summer fruit ciders and a Daisy Duke cocktail which was as sweet and refreshing as it sounds, we delved right into the food menu.

One of the starters chosen was the Southern Fried Chicken in a basket which came with a honey mustard dip. Although I’m not usually a mustard fan, the two flavours blended together nicely to create a subtle addition. The chicken was cooked well with a crispy coating that provided just enough spice.

For those who do like it hot, the cheesy chilli fries went down a treat as a quick burst of enjoyment before the main course.

For our mains, some of us chose the famous Hickory’s Burger – which definitely didn’t disappoint! I choose to add mac ‘n’ cheese to my already mammoth of a burger. The ‘smaller’ option featured two prime beef patties perfectly pieced together with the usual salad bits and fries. The large dollop of mac ‘n’ cheese added to the burger was perhaps the best bit and I was certainly left wanting more.

The rest chose to attack the Hickory’s sharing board. For those that can’t just pick one thing off the menu, the sharer was the perfect solution. This involved some BBQ wings, Texas toast with cheese, Onion rings, smoked baby hot links – smoky sausages for those not in the know. Our personal favourite was the Popcorn shrimp, which was well seasoned and a much bigger portion than expected.

Although we had little room left, after a quick glance of the table next to us who were just tucking into their dessert, we could not resist the Table-Toasted Campfire Marshmallows with Chocolate dipping sauce. Although I was bought up to not play with my food, this dessert had to be tackled differently.  Getting stuck in we took our marshmallows, which came on a skewer and hovered them over the open flame before dunking it into the rich and creamy chocolate sauce.

We left feeling extremely satisfied with smiles on our faces, carrying our full belly’s home!
