Onwards and Upwards for Weston Biltong #Blog

It has been a difficult few months for us all, and for that reason it feels great to be able to share some positive news. Yesterday I popped over to the new home of The Weston Biltong Company for a catch up, after years of being a home-based operation they have taken the next big step.

The team are currently prepping and drying at home in the amazing facility they have created. However, they have now got the keys to the new distribution centre and offices, I was lucky enough to get the tour behind the scenes. This move has meant they have streamlined their production and taking much more advantage of space for prep, drying, packaging and distribution. This will allow the business to grow even more, somewhere that will allow them to increase production, products and offer more services.

These services include offering a select amount of South African Food and Drinks including the very popular fizzers, Spar Letta drinks, Mrs Balls Chutney and Ouma Rusks. The team have been wanting to offer this for years and now with extra space – they can.

Even better, with the new HQ the entire range of products is available for a Click and Collect service, no waiting on the already overworked Postie. The team have worked very hard to make the building compliant with all currently recommended Covid measures to keep it safe. Simply order what you want, they will pull it all together and then contact you to organise collection from HQ.

Shortly before the Pandemic, Weston Biltong started selling online all across EU, a very exciting prospect for such a young business, but there is nothing stopping this dynamic duo and the wonderful team behind them, Germany has been a really interesting market for them and I’m sure they won’t be stopping there.

Last year Weston Biltong supported the lads from HMS Oardacious on their Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, they fuelled the team with nearly 1000 Packs of Biltong over the 12mth of training and the actual row. The 4 Sub Mariners decided to take part in the world’s toughest rowing race and at the same time raise money for RNRMC (Royal Marines and Royal Navy Charity). So far to date they raised a stunning £110,000!

Now Sheryl and Ryan have been found there next Sponsorship opportunity that they are so proud to have gotten behind, the Antarctic Fire Angels.

“Our Biltong will be fuelling them right across the Antarctica no mean feat for a small business created and brought to life by a little lady ‘The boss’ form Yorkshire… The fact we are small family run business doesn’t mean we can’t give a little something back to those that do so much for us.”

The explained they wanted something that is just like us never been done before, something’s that’s truly Unique and something that’s different. The Antarctic Fire Angels want to become the first all-female team of Firefighters; from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) and London Fire Brigade (LFB) they intend to be the first emergency service team to use muscle power alone to ski coast to coast across Antarctica on a route that has never been done by an all-female team before. The team will cover 1900km pulling pulks (supply sled) in temperatures as low as -50 and wind speeds of over 60mph over a period of about 70 days, that’s 27km every day. The team think Biltong is the ideal fuel for these ladies on their incredible quest. Check out some of the firefighters taking part on the Weston Biltong social channels.

Weston Biltong support so many great causes, all very close to their heart, and hearing about Gavin “The Bull” Bilton. I had to share the story. “Gavin is aiming to become the world’s strongest man with the aid of our Biltong. Gavin is still a serving member of our armed forces is a monster of man but a true Gentle Giant.

When we saw the name “Bilton” and what he was trying to achieve we decided that he needed our help so once again we are backing our serving members of armed forces to achieve something really special. Fuelling our forces is something we love to do.”

It was a pleasure to see how well the team have coped and even grown over these difficult few months, and I can’t wait to see what is next for Weston Biltong.
